Hi everyone, I am currently building a 1978 40 series landcruiser. It has been in the works for a while and is getting pretty close to completion.

I have done all the work on this myself except the final body prep and paint, they were done by a local bloke in town.

Body mods include all badges removed, seams have all been welded up and smoothed and the doors have been cut down into 1//2 doors. Theres heaps of other things too i have probably forgotten about.

Motorvation is via a VN 5.0 with C.O.M.E. crank, forged pistons, crane roller rockers etc. Intake manifold is the stock banana setup with a bored out 70mm TB and 355 spec injectors.
Hanging off this is a shift kitted th700 and quicksilver shifter, then a larger 60 series T/case and finally a Lokka kitted full floater rear.

It sits on 33" muddies at the moment and will spin them up without hesitation.
This is my first V8 and the whole thing has been built in the shed at home.

Here are some pics.....

So when will this be finished?

Yes will be fully engineered and road registered.
I have had this car for years as it was the first vehicle I ever bought and was powered by 3 litre diesel.

The whole thing should be finished in a couple of months, then down to perth for engineering. Passing inspection should not be too hard as eveything has been over engineered and upgraded.
I have seen these licenced with 350 chevs and still running the standard drum brakes. I have fitted later model disks to mine, fronts done, rears under way.

It's probably too neat to take out in the scrub again but I Look forward to some beach and dune driving at Esperance or lancelin, also a couple of passes down at the motorplex for kicks.

Picking up the cab.

Hi guys, not much progress on the old girl recently as work has been chaotic. Anyways I am having some issues plumbing up the emmisions lines etc.
Does anyone in town have a vn or similar with a 5.0l I can have a look at to work out where everything goes?
Any help would be great,
thanks.

Nice job!
The emissions on the VNs is pretty basic, give me a bell on 0401363184 and I'll give you a hand setting them up if you like!
Cheers,
Mick

Thanks Mick, I went and had a look at that vn and I think it all makes sense now.

The rear diff is back in place under car now. In the quest for better brakes I got a rear diff housing off a 79 series and cut the spring pads off then welded them back on to suit the narrower spring spring spacing on the 40 series. I then sourced some 75 series backing plates and hubs to get it back to 6 stud like the fronts. I love how interchangeable the parts are on landcruisers, my 30 year old diff centre fits into a housing off a 4 year old cruiser, the axle splines are even the same.

A new set of slotted rotors all round and hopefully it should stop now.

Watch this space......
