its sad enough having to be driven around by my better half.

anyways i also have a VS S-pack (series two with the 5spd getrag) that i have had off the road for a while, getting it in good condition.

Hi Jesse James... :D

OMG I can't believe Saltimbocca is gone... well actually I can.... but I used to love the food there. Oh well. Guess if your food is even better that's where I'll visit instead :p

Good choice of cars... sounds a little like my collection!! :)

well good news.
got a deposit down on the commondore, and the guy is really keen. said he'd pay the 5000 that i want, and he would organise putting the new clutch in/ stereo/ tailights seeing as htoguh i have all of the parts.

Getting a Supermade Instant Gentleman bodykit, and a GT2871R turbo (maybe jsut a GT2860RS...depends on price difference).
still trying ot figure out the squaling problem with the SR20. i think its the vac lines, but others htink its jsut the wastegate.
it happens at about 5000rpm, but i dont loose power or anything. could be the cooler piping, but its still got the stock cooler, so i think i need to take off my front bar jsut to get to her....(shrugs).
oh how wonderful the world of imports is.
still runs great apart form the annoying squelling. and i rarely put it over 5krpm anyways.
after all of that i am saving for a new walbro fuel pump (550hp rating) so i can up the boost a bit with a FMIC.
thinking about injectors, but ill only be runnnig about 11psi so i think i should be ok...*shrugs*.
jsut an update on my plans. might not be able to make it to autosalon as i cant afford to stay in perth for a week to get the turbo and kit fitted.
i would get it done in kal but i dont know hwo to trust.
any ideas?

Dean at kalgoorlie bodyworks for the win on the kit - i have entrusted his team with my 15 before .... did some great work repairing the kit after a kanga annihilation!

And Dave at Ultratune may be able to help you with the turbo fit up - just give or Tracey a call first. Otherwise maybe Mick (Redbeard on here) might be able to give you some help for a fee :D if you get stuck. Mick's a sweetheart!! ;)

Meh each to their own - for every good story about every car place you will get a bad story. Your best bet is to go to each, get prices, discuss what you want and see if they are up for the work and whether you feel comfortable with them. Have a look at some of the work they have done as well.

Don't worry you can get a **** job in perth too for engines, panel and paint and all the rest - just like you can in Kal. Shop around! ;)

well i got asked for a quote for a bunch of stuff from kal bodyworks and they NEVER got back to me. they obviously dont want my money.
no big deal, as in the end my plans have alll changed.
i am sick of the auto box.
getting my licence ASAP, as my learners is backdated in reference to the new laws....
but first i need to sell the commodore (the other young kid can is taking waaayyy to long to coem up with the measly 5k that i want), so i can gets the manual box in, and exhaust.
got under the car and found out that the zorst is RREEEAALLLY fking dody...seriously you have to see it to believe it. also i hate the sound of her atm compared to other SR20s.
new fuel pump is almosy urgent as i really dont need her leaning out.
after i service it (my first time worknig on a car :S ) hopefully the ticking will die ( from the hydrolic lifters....sigh). if not i might be up for a new set of cam gears and timing chain.
do you think i could rip this off myself? i am really broke atm with opening the restruant. (double sigh).
anyways i got to go. lots of work to do. grand opening on monday night! so much work to do.

i guess ya could i know others that think they can that do it. but all depends on how mechanicaly minded you are and tooling ya know what i mean

200SXY

There's a few good articles on silviawa on doing some of those things if you are keen to do it yourself (eg. manual conversion). Only things to consider are: do you have the tools, do you have the time, do you have a spot to do it securely, and do you have another mode of transport while the 180 is out of action. If you have those things then heck yeah go for it!!

If you are stuck for all of those things then you can either get a local shop to help out, or bring the car to Perth for one of the big shops who are experienced to do the work for you - they will be quicker at the work but have higher demand. Although for a few beers some other members may be keen to help you with easy stuff like the exhaust and fuel pump.

If you have a tick in the SR20 that is only present at startup and idle ... that's your VCT... and you can either replace (as I just have) or avoid with different setup. It's annoying but won't affect the cars performance and is incredibly common. If the ticking is constant and doesn't go away with higher revs then it won't be VCT.

JesseJames
25-08-2008, 01:31 PM
well my 180sx is pre-97 (not a type-x) so it doesnt have VCT...
i am one miullion percent sure that ists just gritty lifters.... give her an oil flush and the noise should go.
doesnt matter anyways, as the GF has crashed the car twice. first time she hit gravel at the broadwater... suspesnion damage costs to the front right totaling 1300 dollaroonies.
and jsut yesterday some bogan half-parked behind a van just after the round-about near sling-rig, and she couldnt swearve out of the way quick enough.
just panel damage to the front left fender (needs replacing) and a little dent in the side of the front bar. might have to fix the wheel well as well cause there is rubbing.
*sighs*
have had some bad luck.

VS commodore is still for sale to. jsut getting the new clutch and flywheel in now. xD
