This is a question directed more at the guys who have had head work done to an LS1, but if you know anything feel free to join in.
Ok, so, I'm toying with the idea of getting a set of decent heads for the Commodore, and was wondering what was the best combo of head and cam you found. Also just after a rough figure that you paid for the heads and the install, and where you had it done and what power figures you got.
Cheers.

I had and will only ever get heads from Nathan Higgins.

That bloke knows his stuff.

The cost will depend on how much you want to spend.

Give him a call, he has a no bull #### approach and will only sell you things that will work and work well...

Hmmm.... Thanks for the info guys. Nat... How did you find driveability? Did it still have nice manners? eg. Will the missus still be able to drive it and not have anything to whinge about? I'll start talking to some local shop/s as soon as I get my tune sorted and my trip to Qld over.
Cheers

Yeah the missus loved it.

You really need a good tune for drivabilty. And it will depend on what type of clutch you have in. I had a standard one so it was like driving a standard car! But it went heaps better..

Heads make the world of difference to how the car drives.

Well worth it!

A proven head/cam package (Like the packages Higgins are offering) is the way to make big, streetable hp BUT it is ALL in the tune, Making power is far easier than making a car behave and be on the street.. And some tuners cant even make big power, even when the package is setup to make big power.. Choose your tuner very carefully.

Waz (yella terra) is making awesome power for the mods done and coin spent.. and from what i saw last time he was out, its really streetable.

If your not already on there, check out www.ls1.com.au and have a look at some of the sponsors.. You'll soon get an idea on what people are running (although not many people list the specs of custom grind cams) and whos tuning them well.

Okay, so after some conversations with the bank manager (my wife, Allira ;) ) and some gentle persuasion (she is in a competition of sorts with her boss who owns a certain blue monaro which used to be owned by a certain forum member) ;) ;) We're going ahead with the Heads. Not sure whether to go head and cam as we have just had a cam installed, but i'm waiting for a call back from Higgins so I can have a chat to him about it. Heh. Good times. Im probably going to go the route where it will be suitable for a blower later on down the track. So happy days, and smiles all round

Unsure of full specs on your cam... but a set of heads should push it over the 400rwhp mark

Been told 400rwhp is acheivable with the cam as it is (with a few tweaks to the tune of course). I know of a few guys who are getting up to 390rwhp with a smaller cam than what i've got. I guess it really is ALL in the tune. Funny thing is my wife is more excited about the idea than I am. So a trip to Qld in January, then heads, OTRcai and tune after that

I had read a post on the ls1 forum, where they were talking about power figures done on a car with a plastic OTR, which is quite interesting, but after talking to Dave, I think I will still be going ahead with it, but steel ;) . Click here (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=84530)

Yeh higgins OTR or similar... Worth the money.

If your not working this weekend... you are welcome to chuck my OTR on your car (if you have mafless) and see what you think is better? Just send a PM and we can organise something if you want.
