Have you thought about just taking it down there, getting it looked at and getting permits for what you need to and changing what you need to? Then you don't have to run around for the information beforehand.

What is unfair is that you can still be stickered at the discretion of the officer, so do permits mean a lot in the scheme of things. If you have them though at least you have some back-up.

Good luck with it! Be good to see the Skyline back up and running.

Oooh,I see.
The gov site I get my gear from isn't that specific! The thing to do is get it inspected, get permits for what 'mods' have been done.

Yes Carly, permits are the BIG difference between a casual chat and being dragged off and charged for driving a "unregistreable/unregoed" vehicle!

Went through this with the old mand 4x4 Holden ute. Over zelos mr plod, had all the permits, got stickered, had it re-inspected and they couldn't find anything for it to have been stickered. Put in formal complaint, got the pits money refunded and a red faced WAs finest!

The way Rino Marchesi(chief engineer) put it too me is that if a vehicle has a major motor upgrade(from 4/6cyl to 8 cyl where the factory doesen't make that car with that motor),major suspension mods,Chassis/frame mods without being engineered, the vehicle is technically unregistered. You could be charged with this.
Yes-permits are important.

If you go to Australian Govt. Dept. of Transport and Regional Services, scroll down to Vehicle standard bulletins, open that up, there is the National Code of Practice regarding Light Vehicle mods, that as far as I know apply in WA. It gives all the relevant info for all type of mods that you are looking for. Hope this helps. Fossil.

56GFC is right - there is a new National Code of Practice that Applies. If you can't be bothered downloading then I can email sections to you ... - most are printed, and in my car with all my permits and stuff. There is still some argument from the Pits guys in Perth as to whether the police will recognise that Code yet, or if they still run on the old rules ... but you will only know that when you get the curbside discussion happening! :D

Yep,your both right BUT it is open to speculation! Eg,the biggest motor allowed into a HQ/Z(going by there calculations) is 427ci. By filling out the paperwork-looking for approval in principal-we have 454ci passed! Open for speculation. If the boys in perth are in a good mood and you have your paperwork in order"most"things are poss. Although they won't let me drive the Munro on the road yet... ;-(

Techincally anything you do to your car that changes how it comes out of the factory needs to be permitted.

u can have all the permits and everything done by the book and if the copper dont like ya it dont mean crap. its up to u to prove that your car is legal, not for them to prove its not. as darryl said carl at the trading post is the man to see as he seems onto it, last i heard permits didnt exist anymore

Mmm,dunno! Having been through the 'over zelouse'cop n permit thing, when pushed(and having a legal car!) You win.
I have just applied for permits on another customers car week before last-so I would think that they are still "legal tender"!

yeah the old permits still apply - there are application forms in the NCOP for new permits as well, but they are a different process. For a lot of items the guys in Perth were saying if they meet the rules then they won't issue a permit as you don't need one (obvious but still .. that leaves you open to argument on the side of the road).

Just gonna be one of those things where time will tell again. I've got my book in the car - it's helped in the past, even if it's just cos I look like I might be organised, or it's just too big for anyone to bother reading! :P
